“Revenge Shopping” for the holidays and beyond

Yep, that’s the new term for it. As reported in Chain Store Age, JLL’s annual holiday survey says the pent-up demand for in-person shopping is expected to drive six out of 10 consumers into physical stores this holiday shopping season. Other notable findings:

  • Consumers plan to spend 25.4% more this season, equaling 2019 totals.
  • More than half of holiday shoppers will start before Thanksgiving.
  • More than half will shop Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
  • The top shopper priority this year is still “saving money.”

Retail research and advisory giant Forrester is even more bullish, forecasting 72% of retail sales in the U.S. will take place in stores – well into 2024. That’s a positive sign for both retail AND brick & mortar.

In-store, online, crazy dates, inventory challenges… What does that really mean for this holiday shopping season? It means retail marketers need to be more nimble than ever. We have ideas and solutions. Let’s talk.
